Smilegate Unveils Information on Launch of New VR Title ‘Crossfire: Si… 2023-08-03

Smilegate Entertainment (CEO In-a Jang) announced the global launch of a new virtual reality (VR) game developed by the company ‘Crossfire: Sierra Squad (hereinafter referred to as “Sierra Squad”),’ on August 29 (Tue, Pacific Standard Time) through the official blog of Sony.

‘Sierra Squad’ will be launched in two versions on August 29 : PlayStation®VR2 (hereinafter referred to as PSVR2) and PCVR (Steam). The price will be USD 29.99.

‘Crossfire’ is one of the most popular games in Korea, with more than a billion users worldwide, and Sierra Squad is Smilegate’s first attempt to expand this renowned intellectual property into the VR market. The game features various modes including 13 campaign missions, 50 squad missions in single-player or co-op mode, and horde mode, which can be played by up to four players.

'Sierra Squad' will appeal to users worldwide with its various combat styles, shooting experiences, and bullet impact styles. The game will feature 39 different types of guns, including various pistols and rifles, as well as heavy weaponry such as an RPG-7 and a Gatling gun, and these weapons will perfectly complement the adaptive trigger and haptic feedback of the PSVR2 SenseTM Controller to deliver a shooting experience and bullet impact unique to each weapon for an upgraded VR experience. There will also be 17 types of enemy combatants operated by advanced AI featured in AAA console titles, delivering a fierce combat experience that will require users to employ various strategies.

In addition, Sierra Squad is actively utilizing the innovative functions of PSVR2 HMD, which was newly launched in the first-half of 2023. The game supports high-resolution graphics at 4K HDR and features technology to create a realistic user experience, such as headset feedback and smart eye tracking to offer an upgraded VR experience.

Since last November until June of this year, a number of 'Sierra Squad' trailers have been released unveiling various in-game contents, and making it the most anticipated VR title of the summer. The game was also publicly demonstrated at GDC 2023 in March and the Busan PS Pop-up Store in June, where it received positive reviews from the audience as the “VR title that offers the most realistic and traditional FPS game experience.”
