Smilegate announced that CROSSFIRE, a global mega hit online FPS, began its five-day run at the Esports World Cup 2026 (EWC 2026), the world's largest esports and gaming event, with the group stage getting underway on Tuesday, August 18.

The CROSSFIRE competition at EWC 2026 runs through August 22 with a total prize pool of $2 million (approximately KRW 2.83 billion). The tournament MVP will receive an additional $10,000, while the region represented by the winning team will earn one additional team slot at the CFS Grand Finals scheduled for later this year. A total of 16 teams are divided into two groups for the group stage, with the top four teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinals. The quarterfinal playoffs and final will take place on August 21 and 22 to determine the champion.

The tournament brings together top teams from five regions: China, Vietnam, Brazil, EU/MENA and Southeast Asia. China fields five teams, including last year’s EWC champion AG.AL, while Southeast Asia is represented by two teams, including Team Stallions. Brazil sends three teams led by Natus Vincere, Vietnam fields three teams including regional powerhouse Team Falcons, and three teams from the EU/MENA region also join the competition.

Two of the tournament’s biggest storylines are whether Team Stallions can sustain the momentum that made them the first Philippine team to reach the CFS 2025 Grand Finals championship match, and the first-ever international showdown between Natus Vincere and Team Falcons, both of whom emerged as dark horses at last year’s EWC.

The CROSSFIRE results are also expected to have a direct impact on the final EWC Club Championship standings. The Club Championship rewards the clubs with the strongest combined results across all EWC titles. The champion club will receive KRW 10 billion in prize money, with additional prizes awarded on a sliding scale to the clubs finishing below first place. As of August 18, with 21 of the 25 titles completed, Team Falcons sits in first place, followed by AG.AL in second and Natus Vincere in third. All three clubs have teams competing in CROSSFIRE, making the tournament a potentially decisive factor in the final Club Championship standings.

EWC 2026 is currently taking place in Paris, France, hosted by the Saudi Esports Federation and organized by ESL FACEIT Group. The event features 24 major global esports titles, including CROSSFIRE, and offers a total prize pool of $75 million. The Club Championship, which determines the top-performing club based on combined results across individual titles, is also being held alongside the main competition.

EWC CROSSFIRE matches will be livestreamed in four languages—Chinese, English, Vietnamese and Portuguese—through the official EWC and CFS channels as well as CHZZK.
