Smilegate to Host CFS Summer Championship 2023 in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam 2023-08-09

Smilegate Entertainment (CEO Ina Jang, hereinafter referred to as ‘Smilegate’) and VTC Online (CEO Le Viet Hoa) announced on August 7 that the two companies will be hosting the CFS Summer Championship 2023.

The CFS Summer Championship 2023 will be held in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, from August 21 until August 27. Smilegate has promoted the CFS Summer Championship to a major tournament by increasing the overall competition scale, with a larger number of participating teams and a bigger prize pool. The prize pool in particular saw a significant increase from USD 100,000 in 2022 to USD 300,000 (approx. KRW 390,000,000) in 2023.

The CFS Summer Championship is a competition under CFS, which is the most recognized brand in e-sports competitions for Crossfire. It was newly launched last year and the event is being held for the second time this year. Last year’s event was held with a live audience, the first time in three years since the pandemic began. It recorded a high number of visitors despite the ongoing typhoon at the time, serving as evidence of the high popularity of Crossfire in the world of e-sports.

The CFS Summer Championship 2023 will bring together the strongest teams in the world in the first-half of 2023. The eight teams ranked the highest in the seasonal leagues across five regions, including Vietnam, China, EUMENA, Philippines, and Brazil, will join. This is two more teams than last year. In addition, the tournament format has been changed from single-elimination starting in the semi-finals to double-elimination so that the audience can enjoy a more diverse and higher quality competition.

Smilegate will also promote the event to a major competition in terms of broadcasting. The live broadcast, which was televised only in Vietnamese last year, will also be televised in English and Chinese this year. In China, where Crossfire is enjoying the highest popularity as an e-sport, there will be an analysis desk and caster desk to showcase various contents related to the participating teams.

Aside from matches between the best players in the world, the CFS Summer Championship 2023 will also include various online and offline events prepared for local fans in Vietnam as well as other fans across the globe.
