On January 5 (Thu), Smilegate RPG (CEO Won-gil Ji) announced that Korea’s iconic MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game), LOST ARK had won three awards in ‘Best of 2022’ announced by the world’s largest gaming platform, Steam.

For the ‘Best of 2022,’ Steam selects and announces games ranked the highest across six categories — ‘Top Sellers,’ ‘New Releases,’ ‘Most Played,’ ‘Early Access Grads,’ ‘Steam Deck’ and ‘Best of VR’ — based on Steam indicators for each game compiled between January until December of 2022. This announcement is closely followed by many gaming fans across the world since it allows users to see which games were the most beloved throughout the year on Steam.

LOST ARK was selected for the ‘Platinum’ group under the ‘Top Sellers,’ ‘New Releases’ and ‘Most Played’ categories in the western hemisphere, which includes North America, Europe, South America, and Australia, proving once again its popularity in the global market in 2022. For the ‘Top Sellers’ category, games that have sold the most copies over the course of the year are selected, while the ‘New Releases’ category includes games that generated the highest profits in the first two weeks after initial release and the ‘Most Played’ category includes games that have recorded at least 40,000 concurrent users. Notably, the games that were selected alongside LOST ARK were top-tier global IPs such as Elden Ring and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

LOST ARK has also won various awards presented by prominent gaming media outlets in North America and Europe. On December 16, 2022, LOST ARK won the 2022 Player’s Choice ARPG of the Year award from the renowned North American gaming media outlet MMORPG.COM based on fan voting. The website announced, “LOST ARK did not let us down after finally being released this year after years of anticipation,” and “LOST ARK is a must-play for any fans of ARPGs,” and regarding the latest update with the Summoner Class and Abrelshud Raid, “It is content worthy of a finale to 2022 and we are excited to see what Smilegate and Amazon Games have in store for 2023.”

In addition, the LOST ARK won three awards including the Best 2022 RPG award selected by NPR, the largest radio channel in the US, and the German media outlet MMOGames.com has selected LOST ARK for the 2022 Best New MMORPG award and gave it high praise, stating, “The reason that the LOST ARK was able to captivate so many people is clear. This game is unique, dynamic, and updated consistently. It is beautiful and entertaining, and blends multiple genres, which makes it a curious and wild game.”

LOST ARK was officially released on the global gaming platform Steam in partnership with Amazon Games in February 2022 and quickly established itself as the world’s most popular MMORPG. LOST ARK became an instant sensation, recording peak concurrent users of 1.32 million in the western hemisphere, which includes North America and Europe regions, and sweeping the ‘Top Seller’ chart on Steam. Even now, approximately a year after its initial release, it remains firmly established within the top 3 on Steam’s ‘Top Seller.’

Smilegate RPG CEO Won-gil Ji said, “2022 was the year when LOST ARK was able to take a step towards becoming an IP recognized across the globe thanks to the overwhelming interest and love from our fans across the world. Our developers will continue to strive to build a better game for our fans in 2023 to show our gratitude for the massive support they have shown us.”
